FIFA Toughens Racism Penalties

In its effort to lessen, if not totally eliminate racism, FIFA shall observed tougher penalties and sanctions to offenders.
FIFA’s most recent protocol follows a “two-stage” approach for clubs or team representative. For minor offences, offenders are issued with a warning or fined. A directive to play the match “behind closed doors” shall be implemented as well.
Meanwhile, grave offences and reoffenders may lead to deductions or worse, competition expulsion or relegation.

On the other hand, any individual (official, supporter, player etc) violator shall be subject to a 5-match suspension or a stadium ban.
To ensure that all necessary measures are strictly observed, special officials shall take rounds in the stadium to identify potential racist acts. The officials are required to present concrete evidence to support their claims.
Racism has been a pervading problem in football. It has been one of the reasons behind cultural divisions, which, the sport tries to bridge prevent.
Just recently, a match between AC Milan and Roma was halted due to racist chants against Balotelli and Kevin Prince-Boateng. Incidents like this is what FIFA wants to totally eradicate. As stressed by FIFA President, Sepp Blatter stressed, FIFA must lead the battle against racism. The “zero tolerance” policy should not only sanction, but also set an example.
