It seems that the naysayers would be silenced, at least for now.
The Arena Pernambuco
is the final 2014 World Cup stadium to be handed over. It is also the smallest
of the six World Cup stadiums, with a capacity of just 46,106. Despite this
smaller capacity, the stadium boasts of two large HD television screens, a
mixed seating section, a premium seating section, and 1,600 seats for VIP
lounges.

Amidst concerns that the 2014 FIFA World Cup stadiums in Brazil
won’t be finished on time, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff just inaugurated
the Arena Pernambuco last May 20. Brazilian Minister of Sport Aldo Rebelo,
Governor of Pernambuco Eduardo Campos, and the LOC CEO Ricardo Trade also
graced the stadium’s opening.
The inauguration was capped off with a match between some of the construction
workers. A test match for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 was also held on
Thursday, May 23, between Nautico and Sporting CP. The latter game drew in a
crowd of 26,803.
Three group stage matches for the Confederations Cup will be held: one
Group B match between Spain and Uruguay on June 16, another Group B match
between Italy and Japan on June 19, and one Group A match where Uruguay will
clash with Tahiti.
