Before January 2013, Louis Saha is the last person most people would expect to sign up for Lazio. And yet there in Lazio he is, bringing his valuable experience—among other things—to the Italian football scene.
To say
that Saha has an impressive resume would be an understatement. The 34-year-old
Frenchman honed his skills as a striker during his stint with Fulham in the
2000-01 season. He then attracted the attention of Manchester United, which
signed him up for £12.4 million for the 2003-04 season. Saha has since won the
Premier League twice, the 2007-08 UEFA Champions League, and scored six times
towards winning the League Cup, despite being burdened with injuries.
In an
interview with FIFA.com, Saha believed that he would find Serie A more
challenging compared to the Premier League.
“I have
been used to the English league which is a bit more open with more free roles
for every player on the pitch but the main thing is the freedom of the players.
Here (in Italy) it is a bit more tactical and very organized. It is not the catenaccio that it used to be years ago
but it is still very defensive which means as a striker you are always facing
two or three defenders,” he said.
